​All About Waivers

Adult Autism Waiver (AAW)-It's a 1915(c) Home and Community-Based Services (HCBS) Medicaid waiver designed to provide long-term services and supports for community living, tailored to the specific needs of adults age 21 or older with ASD. There is currently a long waiting list to receive AAW services. For more information, contact the Bureau of Autism Services at 1-866-539-7689. (the state is moving away from this waiver in an effort offer waivers that support Person Centered Planning)

What are Medical Assistance Waivers?
People with Intellectual Disabilities can be eligible for MA, also known as Medicaid. Pays for a range of healthcare services including dental and home health. Pay rates differ between waivers.

The Pennsylvania Person/Family Directed Support Waiver is designed to help individuals with an intellectual disability, autism, or developmental disability to live more independently in their homes and communities and to provide a variety of services that promote community living, including self-directed service models.

Community Living Waiver
Supports individuals with an intellectual disability, autism or developmental disability to live more independently in their homes and communities through the provision of a variety of services that promote community living, employment, communication, self-direction, choice and control.

Consolidated Unlimited Budget Waiver
This waiver is based on need that is clearly stated to help individuals with an intellectual disability, autism or developmental disability to live more independently in their homes and communities and to provide a variety of services that promote community living, including self-directed service models and traditional, agency-based service models. This one is often recommended for people with Intellectual Disabilities who aren't able to live independently.
