How does music therapy help?

Music therapy helps people with autism connect, express, and grow—using the power of music at every stage of life.

**Is a supplemental therapeutic option for any age.

Across the Lifespan:

  • Children may use music therapy to learn language, build focus, or regulate emotions.

  • Teens can explore identity, reduce anxiety, and connect socially.

  • Adults may use it for relaxation, independence, or coping with life changes.

Improves Communication

  • Music can help people who struggle to speak express themselves through sounds, rhythm, or lyrics.

  • It can also teach turn-taking, listening, and using words or gestures.

Supports Social Skills

  • Playing music in a group helps with sharing, making eye contact, and working with others.

  • It’s a fun way to connect without needing lots of words.

Builds Emotional Understanding

  • Music helps people recognize feelings—like happy, sad, or calm—both in themselves and others.

  • It’s a safe way to explore emotions without pressure.

Reduces Stress and Anxiety

  • Music can have a calming effect and help people relax when they’re overwhelmed or overstimulated.

  • It becomes a tool for self-soothing and emotional control.

Encourages Movement and Coordination

  • Dancing or moving to music helps improve motor skills, balance, and body awareness.

Supports Learning and Memory

  • Songs with repetition or rhythm can help teach daily routines, academic skills, or life skills in a fun way that sticks.
